October 29th, 2007 - Lex supports Brake
As part of its involvement in BRAKE Road Safety Week, Lex, the UK's leading vehicle leasing company, is working with its local communities in Marlow, Manchester and Stirling to raise road safety awareness.
The theme of this year's Road Safety Week is 'Child Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety'.
To encourage children to think carefully about how they can stay safe on the road, Lex is running a road safety poster design competition for primary school children aged 3-11 years. Details of the competition have been sent to over 400 primary school head teachers in the areas around its three regional offices.
Children wishing to enter are asked to design a poster promoting road safety, write their name, age and a contact telephone number on the back, and send it in to Lex at Globe House, Parkway, Globe Park, Marlow SL7 1YL, by Friday 24th November 2007.
The best posters in two age categories will be awarded prizes, but every child who enters will receive a reflective wristband, highlighting the need to be clearly visible to motorists during the dark winter months.
As well as the competition, Lex is sponsoring three banners which will be displayed in Marlow High Street, across Murray place in Stirling and in Manchester's G-Mex arena. The banners will serve as a stark reminder that 44 children were killed on the roads in the surrounding areas of Lex offices last year, and will encourage drivers to 'Slow Down' and 'Let Kids Live'.
Finally, during Road Safety Week, Lex will be holding a dress down day where staff donating £1 to BRAKE can come to work in casual clothes. Jon Walden, Lex Managing Director, has agreed to match the amount of money his staff raise, so doubling their efforts.
Jon says, "With a fleet of around 178,000 cars and vans on Britain's roads, we are very aware of our responsibility to help promote road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. If our efforts during Road Safety Week result in just one less child being killed or seriously injured on our roads, then it will all have been worthwhile."
